Part 2 scouting
Another key aspect when becoming a successful elk hunter is being able to take time before the season opens to scout new areas. This aspect of hunting is often times over looked, and not given the attention it deserves.
The only reason I believe that I continuously see elk every year and have a chance at harvesting a mature bull is due to the time that I put in before the season opens. If you are able to locate elk before your season starts then you are off to a great start, by locating these elk early in the year you limit the amount of time your are forced to scout during your limited hunting time. By knowing where those elk are before the season’s starts you dramatically increase the amount of time that you are hunting in areas that hold elk.
